What does WhatsApp Business do well?
WhatsApp Business is made for talking to customers you already have. It is free to start, it works on the phone you already own, and most people in India already use WhatsApp every day.
It gives you tools that the regular app does not:
- A business profile with your address, hours and website
- A catalogue to show products or services
- Quick replies for questions you answer again and again
- Labels to sort customers, and away messages for when you are closed
For repeat customers and for taking orders from people who already know you, it is hard to beat.
Where does it stop?
WhatsApp works once a customer has your number. It is much weaker at helping a new customer who has never heard of you.
- A stranger cannot browse WhatsApp to find a business that does what they need
- Your chats are private, so Google has nothing to show
- Your replies depend on you being available on your phone
- Your catalogue is small and cannot hold full details, such as service areas or long explanations
Can customers find you from it?
Not in the way they find a website. WhatsApp does not work like a search engine for local businesses. A person who searches "AC repair near me" will not land in your WhatsApp chat unless something sent them there first.
That something is usually a Google result, a website, a Google Business Profile, or a word of mouth recommendation.
What does a website add?
- Search visibility. Pages for your services and area that Google can show.
- Trust. A real address, real details, a privacy policy and your business information in one place.
- Answers while you sleep. Hours, prices, directions and common questions available all day.
- A home for your enquiries. A form that sends details straight to your email.
- Something you own, at your own domain.
How do click to chat buttons join them?
This is the best of both. On your website, a WhatsApp button opens a chat with your business number with one tap, often with a message already typed in, such as "Hi, I would like to know about your services."
The customer finds you on Google, reads about you on the website, and then starts talking on the app they already use. You keep the conversation on the channel you are quick on. All our websites include WhatsApp click to chat buttons, along with click to call buttons and enquiry forms.
What should a shop do first?
It depends on where your customers come from.
- If nearly all your customers already know you, start with WhatsApp Business and a Google Business Profile.
- If you want new customers who search for what you sell, build a website and join it to WhatsApp.
- If you do not know yet, do the free things first: set up WhatsApp Business and claim your Google profile, then look at what customers ask.
When you are ready, our Managed Website plan builds up to 10 pages for ₹0 and runs them for ₹2,999 a month, GST included. To talk it through, contact us.
Questions people ask
Is WhatsApp Business free?
The WhatsApp Business app is free to download and use for talking to your customers. There are paid features for larger businesses and for sending bulk messages through approved channels. A small shop can run well on the free app. Check WhatsApp's own pages for current terms before you plan anything beyond basic chat.
Does WhatsApp rank on Google?
No, not in the way a website does. Your chats are private and Google cannot read them. Your business profile on WhatsApp is not a page that appears in a normal search for your services. To be found on Google you need a website, a Google Business Profile, or both.
Can I show a catalogue on WhatsApp?
Yes. WhatsApp Business lets you create a catalogue of products or services, with pictures, prices and descriptions. It is a handy way to show customers what you offer inside the app. It has limited space and detail, so a website can hold fuller information for each item.
Can I take payments through WhatsApp?
Payment features depend on your country, your account and WhatsApp's current offering, so check its help pages. Many shops simply share a UPI link or QR code in the chat, which works well for small businesses. Whatever you use, keep a record of payments received and confirm the order in writing.
Do I need the WhatsApp API?
Probably not. The API is meant for larger businesses sending automated or high volume messages, and it has setup costs and approval rules. A small shop usually does well with the free WhatsApp Business app and a click to chat button on its website. Revisit this if your message volume grows a lot.
