Local SEO and AEO: what is the difference, and which first?

Local SEO gets you into the list of results near customers. AEO gets your pages used when an AI gives a direct answer. Here is how they overlap, what a month of work looks like, and when it is too early to pay.

What is local SEO?

Local SEO is the work of making your business easy to find when someone searches for what you sell, near where you are. It covers three areas.

  1. Your Google Business Profile, which drives the map results.
  2. Your website pages, which need to match what people search, in the places you serve.
  3. Your listings elsewhere, such as directories, where your details must be the same.

It is about being one of the businesses Google shows when a person types "dentist near me" or "plumber in Whitefield".

What is AEO?

AEO is answer engine optimisation. More people now ask Google's AI answers, ChatGPT or a voice assistant a question instead of scrolling a list of links.

AEO shapes your pages so those tools can quote your business: a clear answer to each question your customers really ask, set up so a machine can read it. It is less about ranking in a list and more about being the source of the answer.

Where do they overlap?

A lot. Both need:

  • A complete, accurate Google Business Profile
  • The same name, address and phone number everywhere
  • Pages that clearly say what you do and where
  • Genuine reviews that are replied to
  • A site that loads well on a phone

If you do these well, you have done most of the groundwork for both. That is why we offer them together.

What do 5 pages a month look like?

In our Local SEO + AEO plan, 5 pages a month are optimised. For each page we work on the title, the description and the headings, and we shape the content so it answers a real question your customers ask. Service area pages are covered too.

A month of work typically has this shape:

  1. Research: which searches customers make near you, and what competitors rank for.
  2. Audit: your name, address and phone number across your website, Google and directories.
  3. Pages: 5 pages improved.
  4. Fixes: the problems the audit found.
  5. Report: what was done and how rankings, traffic and enquiries moved.

What do you see in a monthly report?

A good report is in plain words and answers four questions: what did you do, what changed, what did it mean for enquiries, and what happens next. Ours covers rankings, traffic and enquiries, once a month.

Be careful with reports that show only impressions or a long list of keywords with no link to enquiries. Enquiries are the point.

When is it too early to pay for this?

Be honest about timing. It may be too early if:

  • You do not have a website or a Google Business Profile yet. Start with those.
  • Your business details are still changing, such as the name or address.
  • You are not ready to answer the enquiries it would bring.

In those cases, claim your profile first, get a simple website live, and come back. The work builds on those basics.

What does ₹24,999 cover?

Our Local SEO + AEO plan is ₹24,999 a month, GST included. It covers local keyword and competitor research, the questions your customers ask, 5 optimised pages a month, name, address and phone consistency, a schema, citation and directory audit, AI visibility tracking where measurable, and a monthly report.

It does not cover guaranteed rankings or AI citations, paid backlinks or placements, or unlimited writing and new landing pages, which are quoted separately before we start. Taken with another plan, the prices drop: any two plans are 10% off and all three are 20% off. See the pricing page or the Local SEO + AEO page.

Questions people ask

Do I need a website before local SEO and AEO?

It helps a great deal. Pages are the main thing these services improve, so with no site there is little to work on beyond your Google profile and listings. You can buy each of our plans on its own, but most businesses should get the website and profile in place first.

Can you guarantee rankings?

No, and nobody can honestly do so. Search results and AI answers are controlled by Google and other companies, and they change. What we can do is the work, and show you the numbers every month in a report so you can see what is moving and what is not.

How soon will I see results?

It varies by business, area and competition, so we do not promise a date. Profile fixes can show quickly. New and improved pages usually take longer to be found and to move. Judge it over a few months of reports, not a few weeks.

What is a citation?

A citation is a mention of your business name, address and phone number on another site, such as a directory. When these match your website and Google profile, it supports trust. When they differ, it can confuse search tools. Our audit checks and fixes mismatches across listings.

Do you write the pages?

We optimise 5 pages a month, which means titles, descriptions, headings and shaping the content into clear answers. New landing pages and unlimited writing are quoted separately, before we start. If you want more pages than 5, we tell you the cost before any work begins.
